I just have to share I am so excited! I know this is a stitching blog but I am so thrilled I am posting it anyway! For those of you that don't digital scrapbook Shabby Princess is the #1 designer of paper and embellishments to use. I love her stuff and buy as much as I can afford. I recently started posting a few things in her gallery and they picked me for Layout of the WEEK!!! I finished this one months ago and had to wait for my husband to heal from shoulder surgery so that he could get the compressor and stapler out to mount this to the frame. I really wanted to show it to you finished and framed! It isn't cross stitch but I loved how it turned out. I have a previous post with all the details on the pattern if you are interested in finding it for yourself. I really love how the simple shapes and simple frame work together to create the nativity in such a unique way. It may not be for everyone but I love it and can't wait for Christmas to display it.

I started my "Traveling Stitcher" from Little House Needleworks this week. I have so enjoyed the colors and I can't wait to finish this one! I thought I would share my start to motivate me to keep going. My progress would look better if I had ironed it first but I know myself, I never would have gotten to posting it if I had waited to press it first, lol.

Needlework is something I love not just doing myself but admiring others creations. I want to make sure I pass this love onto my children. Now granted my girls are only 4 and 6 but I was so excited when I was at the craft store and found these cute kits for beginners. They list as 6+ which after two sessions with the girls may be a bit ambitious for an age range. The needlepoint one is actually easier than the cross stitch one. The point is the girls already LOVE working on them and it has been fun to encourage them even if it means the few times I get to sit down and do my stitching usually gets interrupted because they want to work on their projects. I am excited that my girls are already loving something I enjoy so much.

Not cross stitch but still stitching

I thought I would post my progress on a project I have been working and am really loving how it is turning out. It is the first time I have worked with wool but it has been fun. The pattern is from Under the Garden Moon titled O Holy Night. They have a website listed on the back of the pattern: underthegardenmoon.com

I am getting close to finishing it, I need to add the last wiseman on the end and put some stitched stars in the sky, I also think the donkey's tail may need a few more stitches it looks short to me, last but not least I have a ton of red french knots to but on the vine to create my "berries." I am not a fan of the french knot so I am sure I will save those for last.

I am hoping to finish this one in the next couple of week and get it framed. I have the BEST frame for it, I am so excited. I will post a picture of the completed project.

Shopping Spree

Wasatch Needlecraft had a Superbowl Sale, where you picked a team before hand and then depending on your teams score depended on how much of a percentage you got off all the way up to 30%. Well sports is not my thing, if the email hadn't provided the teams to pick from I would have had to google it, lol. Any way I managed to pick the Saints and get my 30% off! So I splurged and got some things that I have been wanting.

Last year I got the Impie, Hattie, & Bea folder piece that goes with the Traveling Stitcher I knew it wouldn't last and I was right so I am glad I got it when I did. So the first item on my superbowl sale order had to be the patternwhich came with the beautiful Crescent Colors that just make my fingers itch to start stitching and also the fabric.

I also ordered the Lizzie Kate ABC Lessons which also came with beautiful Crescent Colors. Then I splurged a bit more and added the Little House Needleworks He's a Flake pattern and fabric. There is just something about that snowman that makes me smile.

I was very pleased with Wasatch Needlecraft they not only had amazing customer service but all my fabric came serged on the edges and ready to stitch! I can now get down to the fun of sewing without the prep work! I will be ordering from them again and if anyone needs a great needlework online store I highly recommend them!

So even if life has not slowed down and I still home school and have little sewing time I am hoping I will have more stitching posts soon!

Organizing vs Stitching

I haven't been stitching much lately, we had a fun busy summer though! I have recently begun attending an organization workshop. It has been amazing and she always says if you can get 10% more organized that is 90 minutes you add to your day. I have to tell you every time I hear that all I can think of is 90 minutes more of stitching a day! Anyway as part of my organization I went through my things and have been discarding and giving away to charity a great deal of my stuff. I came across this pattern in my purging and thought I would post it here. If anyone would like to stitch it please let me know and I will send it to you. It is Summers Remembered by Paula Vaughan, I don't think it is in print right now as I tried to find it online a couple of months ago and couldn't. The pattern is in good shape but has a tear at the binding, doesn't effect the pattern at all though. My Sewing Room

My sewing room is truly amazing in my mind but that is as far as it has gotten, maybe someday when we have a bigger house or my kids are at college. For now it is the kitchen table if I get out the sewing machine and my hand stitching is done in the following two spots:

Upstairs in the living room I have my Dutalier Rocking Chair that I LOVE. So comfy. I also have a second or third project waiting to work on hanging out in the bookshelf. I have my wonderful light how do people stitch without a good light! I love mine I have two, one for upstairs and one for downstairs and I got them at the Cabella's Sporting Goods store, lol. They are "tie-flying" lamps, lol. Apparently men are not impressed with the wonders of a good true light lamp and they were clearanced out for a steal! They were the same name brand as the one my craft store had for $120 but put in Cabellas packaging and only $39!

Anyway I am easily distracted, my second sewing spot is in our exercise/toys/tv room. When I want to spend time with my husband but cannot listen to another history channel special I stitch and at least spend time with him in the same room. But I have to say that history is sinking in, I don't think I am listening but on some level I am learning because my trivial pursuit skills are HUGELY improving, lol.

But if I were to create a sewing room I would imagine it something like this:
But I would paint it a wonderful warm french country kind of a blue.
And I would simply have to sew this up for my sewing machine in shades of blue.

Beatrix Pattern Free

I purchased this to do up as a gift for a friend that was pregnant. Well her baby is one and I haven't even purchased the supplies so obviously this isn't going to happen, lol. Anyway I like Beatrix Potter but not enough to stitch this one up for myself. So if there is anyone out there that would like this leave me a comment and I will mail it to you. I also have a photocopy that I made of the pattern that I will include. I like to work from a photocopy so I know I have the original somewhere safe. I know myself well and have found it saves me time and money.

The pattern is called Beatrix Potter StoryBook Sampler II from Green Apple Co. Design Adapted by Jeanne Bowers. It is a very sweet birth announcement and I hope someone out there is excited to have it!

I am not a huge birthday fan. I lied for years and insisted I was 29. Well no one believes me anymore so I might as well claim my newly acquired wrinkles around the eyes and just face the fact I am now 35, lol. My husband did great this year he bought me the finishing kit to the Traveling Stitcher by Little House Needleworks. This is a piece I have been admiring for ages and really wanted to complete. I love the verse and the colors. I don't think he realized that it doesn't come with the pattern, thread, or fabric to finish it, lol. He mentioned that he was surprised I hadn't started it already. I will sneak next payday and buy the thread/pattern/fabric and start my new project. Then he will never know. Anyway I am terribly excited to start my new project so I thought I would share a couple of pictures of the finished product I found online. I hope mine turns out as well!

Small Finish

I just finished what I think they call a primitive embroidery, lol. It was fun and fast and easy and turned out cute for spring. I also painted the frame myself. Anyway since it was needlwork I thought I would share a couple of pictures.

I started working on Teresa Wentzler's Tapestry Cat again. It is one of my WIP's from before I was married so at least 7 years ago, lol. Anyway I have found I am really enjoying myself stitching this one again. I love all the colors and am having fun with it. I think last time I put it away I had finished the cat and was pretty tired of it. I think I will put off getting a new project for a while and just work on this one. Our local needlework shop closed so I have to drive about 45 minutes to the one in Salt Lake. Here a few pictures of my tapesty cat in progress, the leaves and flowers are all new work.

Decisions

So I have narrowed my new project down to two. The first I love and is so cute and my girls would love it. It is the "spookiest" advent calendar for Halloween made by Blue Ribbon Designs. You can see more pictures, supply list etc at the Designers website HERE. I really liked several designs they had including the new valentine release and the Christmas advent calendar.

The 2nd one I love and I keep going back to, but honestly I think it would end up being one of those WIP's I have for years. I guess it is my ADD I have a hard time sticking to one project for that long to finish LOL. But honestly it really pulls on all the mothering feelings I have and I love looking at it. The designer is Mirabilia, Mother's Arms. The most beautiful example of this piece completed can be found at another cross stitch blog: Life In Stitches. I encourage you to click on the previous link to view her finished piece. It really makes me want to go and start it today.

So as I am without project I went through my WIP's box and I really have to laugh at myself, I had a shepherds bush kit I started working on and realized the reason I had put it away was the border that was 1/3 complete was missing a stitch from basically the VERY beginning and needed to be removed and restitched. I removed some of it and then got distracted when I got back to stitching I dug back into the WIP pile and started on a Theresa Wentzler piece and realized that the tape I had used on the edges was so old it was no longer sticky and was falling apart and I could not stitch it in that condition without fraying the linen. (yes, I know better and overcast all my edges now, but I think I started this piece over 10 years ago and didn't know that then) So I actually completed the overcast on the entire piece and spent several hours doing so. So although I have spent hours "stitching" I don't really have much to show for it, lol.

Project Finished!

I am so excited to have finished this one. It really turned out nice too. I finished it this morning instead of doing dishes, laundry or various other household tasks that could really use my attention, lol. My excuse is I have another cold so it just felt better to sit and stitch. The beads are opalescent in color and really play off the dark peach well. Things that don't photograph well. All images should be clickable so you can view a closer look if interested.

I decided now that the beads and everything is in the quirky heart works so I am going to leave it the way it was graphed. I was reading a site that explained what stitching judges look for in winning pieces and the 2nd one was no pet hair. LOL I WILL NEVER achieve that one. All of mine have pet hair no matter how hard I try to keep it out of there. Guess I shouldn't be suprised having two cats and a long haired dog. I am really excited to take this and my other daughters birth announcement in to be framed, I will have to actually work this month so that I can afford to have them done, lol.

Now for the fun part, what project do I get to buy now I have finished one?! Also which WIP am I going to pickup until I have the new project?

Current Project

I am currently working on the birth announcement for my 2nd child who is oh 3! But it is getting close! I have made myself not start anything new until I finish a project, OH SO PAINFUL, lol. Plus the last few months I haven't worked on anything but this so I could finish it! I made a ton of progress on super bowl sunday. It was super bowl stitching for me. I love when I get this close to finishing but I hate it as well because I find that my dishes pile up and my children complain they have no clean clothes, lol. The designer is Marie Barber of Marie's Garden printed by Just CrossStitch, titled Celebration of Life. I have really enjoyed stitching this one as my daughter has been so interested in the progress, she so doubted I was stitching a bear and then the back stitching went in and she could see his face and she was soo excited, lol.Before the SuperBowl of Stitching:

What do you think of this heart? It is not symetrical and kind of funky, it is stitched exactly as charted, I guess my OCD is kicking in and I really want to match up those sides of the heart, lol. I have decided to leave it for now and see if it grows on me but I would love to hear your thoughts!

I have really enjoyed stitching the white work pictured here, the photo doesn't do the floss justice. It is Caron Collection Waterlilies Opal 118 and has a subtle varigation that doesn't show up in the picture but is really beautiful. I love stitching with this I think I will look for a pattern I like that uses all or a great deal of the waterlilies.

I thought it was interesting, totally unplanned but my first daughter's birth announcement that I stitched was also by Marie Barber titled Welcome Little One. I think I stopped working on this one for almost a year because I was so afraid to cut! But I was really happy with how it turned out and really like the drawn thread. Yes she will be five this month and it is still not framed but it is at least complete! I thought I would send both of them in together and frame them in a similar way.

I think I will spend some time searching for tips on photographing needlework it has turned out to be more challenging than I would have thought and I have a great camera!!

Stitching

I have been doing a family blog for ages. But I have recently become addicted to the many stitchers out there and their blogs. I am not a stitcher that completes a great many projects a year but I do LOVE the time that I do spend stitching. I have decided to go ahead and start my own stitching blog. So as my first post I thought I would start with my stitching roots.

I started stitching as a young child making x's on gingham fabric my mom gave me, I loved creating pictures from simple floss and fabric. As I grew my projects became more ambitious. I have few projects that I made from my youth as I gave most of them away as gifts. However I do have a set that I finished in high school and the second at college.
I looked for the original pattern but couldn't find it, they are Paula Vaughan designs from her quilting series. The 2nd photo came out dark, the first is a much better representation of the colors. I love forest green but would love to get rid of the mauve matting, so 80's lol. But I still love them and they are in my living room and I am always suprised how many people think they are paintings and not cross stitch.
